Photobook commission

We've been busy working on a set of 25 photobooks for Glasgow based photographer and visual artist Colin J Tennant. The photographs were from a series exploring and uncovering the living history of the LGBT* community in Cumbria, and are a fascinating insight.

We worked closely with the artist to make books that work with the content, and it was a really great project to collaborate on.
We eventually opted for black suede covers and exposed spine coptic stitching. We blind debossed the title, alluding to the hidden nature of the subject matter, and custom printed endpapers for the inside of the covers.

What we love about books are how holding them in your hand can create a new interaction with the content. The tactile experience makes it something more intimate and personal. The soft suede of these books is warm to the touch, and combined with the intricate stitching and lay flat exposed spine makes them feel quite delicate. This is contrasted by the size, which makes them ideally held in both hands, and the rich black of the covers. We're really happy with how these books turned out, and it was a great project to work on. Find out more about the artist and the project at
