I’m over the moon to be back in my home town of Innellan this summer, sharing some skills and creating beautiful books together! This time I’m showing you how to make a butterfly stitch and a Secret Belgian binding - two methods that make great sketchbooks and journals and highlight the handmade nature of our books.

Led by a professional bookbinder (me!), you’ll learn the skill of bookbinding, making two books by hand to take home with you. These structures shows off an exposed spine, and open completely flat - great for taking notes and sketching.

You’ll learn:

• How to prepare your book pages

• Making hardcovers from paper and bookcloth

• Sewing your books with two different exposed stitches

• Handling materials, tools and adhesives

There will be an abundance of high quality materials to choose from. Tools and materials and refreshments will be provided, but you’ll need to bring a packed lunch. Please let me know at the time of booking if you have any dietary requirements.

Workshops run from 10am - 5pm from Innellan Village Hall ante room. There’s plenty of free parking and it’s across the road from a bus stop (an two great pubs if you feel like celebrating your hard work afterwards!
